50 Things To Do When You’re Bored

Here’s a great list of 50 things to do when you’re bored!

I know most people would laugh at me if they heard me say that everyday at some point I get really bored.

If you’re anything like me you’ll understand what I’m about to confess.

It’s usually between 2:30 and 4:30 p.m. (If I remember correctly this is the same time of the day I used to get board as a child, and most of my children declare boredom as well.)

Don’t get me wrong, I think boredom is beautiful. Boredom offers space in a noisy and busy day to allow creativity, and thought. IF you’re disciplined enough to take that time.

I have discovered that unfortunately I am not. Instead I take that time to start to let ungratefulness and dissatisfaction with  my house, my schedule, and ultimately myself.

I have come to hate this time of day. It is the point in the day when my day has calmed down, the chores are typically done, the school work is wrapping up, my husband isn’t home yet, and it’s too early to think about dinner. Therefore besides for changing the loads of laundry out for the 3rd time that day, I let boredom set in.

I’ve come to recognize boredom, it’s on-set and all the little triggers that go with it. And I’ve decided I don’t want to allow it to take my happiness. Instead I came up with a list of things that I can direct my attention to that help keep me and my idol  hands and heart busy. “Idol hands are the devils play place.” and that couldn’t be more true for me.

So let’s get into it!


  • Call a friend
  • do a quick tidy
  • unload the dishwasher
  • clean out a closet
  • rearrange furniture
  • paint or draw a scene from your window
  • read a great book
  • watch a movie or season
  • turn on really loud music and dance!

  • give yourself a mani/pedi
  • start embroidering
  • start a website/blog
  • minimize your counter-tops
  • take a bubble bath
  • go for a walk with your dog or by yourself
  • take a hike
  • go driving to a new place you’ve never been
  • go to a mall and walk around
  • start a vision board
  • go to the gym
  • go to the library
  • write a story or poem
  • play an instrument
  • plant a garden
  • water your garden or plants

  • watch the clouds
  • listen to the birds
  • start a journal
  • go get a a hair cut
  • go get a cup of coffee
  • try a new recipe
  • bake
  • take a nap
  • meditate
  • do a puzzle
  • take an online class
  • learn something totally new and challenging
  • go to the zoo

  • go to a state park
  • lay on your bed and think
  • make your bed
  • play a video game
  • detail your car

  • build a snowman or fort
  • read a self-help book and take notes, then immediately start to implement the tips
  • go to the movies


There are thousands of things that you can do to slay boredom and/or improve your life.

What ever you choose make it a great, fun, and most of all an intentional day!
